This is a quote from Eric Raymond the creator of Linux. It’s one of 5 parts of his “Hacker Attitude”, which strongly informs our culture. The heart of the hacker attitude is to relentlessly solve problems at their root, to look for the bottleneck in a system so “no problem ever has to be solved twice”.

Solving problems is the way to create value. So we measure “competence” in terms of an individual’s ability to proactively solve problems and apply solutions.

It seems everyone who’s worked with a service provider has been burned. We think it’s mostly due to the quoted scenario above. Regardless, we think about the problem of “values” in terms of long vs. short term thinking. The best way to win over a long time horizon is to set partners up for success in whatever form that takes.

Success through transitions means working towards self-sufficiency. This includes partnered companies, team members, and contractors. We believe that independence and personal agency are the foundation of any healthy relationship (Business or Personal). We understand that partners will move to new projects, clients might transition away from outside support and team members may look for a different type of work or want to do their own thing.
